CH4: Open explanations

Scout regained consciousness a few days later, his head pounding due to the excessive amount of sleep. The sun shone through the shutters on the windows, keeping the room dark and gloomy and slightly cool. He sat up weakly with a groan, not paying any heed to the arm that rested itself on his chest. As Scout looked about the room with fresh eyes, Sniper lay asleep beneath him, his face divested of his shades and his hat. Sniper hadn't slept to well, with him having to keep the kid warm, and keeping this all a secret, and not to mention fighting off the BLU spy, it was pretty tiring work. So, now he snored beneath the Scout, who was beyond curious as to where he was at, and obviously not to worried about the enemy Sniper, sleeping peacefully beneath him.

“Oh man…” Scout spoke out to no one particular. “How long have I been out?”  He looked around the room, the one he remembered from when he first awoke, and noticed that it was much darker than before. Then again, Scout remembered seeing a lamp light up and then the face of that guy. He seemed pretty nice, a little weird because he saved him. It wasn’t that Scout wasn’t grateful, he was beyond it, but it was the fact that it was a RED Sniper, and well Scout was BLU. That was explanation enough right? Sniper, who was having one of the best dreams of his life, opened his eyes groggily, a small grunt pressing itself passed his lips as Scout sat on his stomach. As he looked at Scout, he noticed that all the boy’s strength was going to holding himself up.

“Dun strain yourself mate.” Sniper suddenly spoke up, his voice rumbling much lower than usual. Scout, who hadn’t paid any amount of attention to what he was laying, jumped nearly three feet in the air and landed back first on the floor of the nest. He stared wide-eyed and panting at Sniper who rose, like one of those mummies from the dead.

“What the hell?!?” he shrieked out, his heart literally pounding. He never noticed he was on top of the guy, hell Scout thought the cot was just really lumpy or something. “Where am I?” he asked, his heart rate dropping back to its normal speed. In the midst of his freight, Scout couldn’t remember if he got back to his base or not. Judging by the looks of it, he didn’t even make it out.

“Yur at the RED base.” Sniper replied, his hands rising up from the covers to rub at his sleep crusted eyes. A gigantic, healthy yawn erupted from his mouth and Scout watched in mild fascination. They were both enemies, two guys meant to kill the other, and yet Sniper was so content and calm, it made Scout feel a bit weird.

“So, you’re a RED?” Scout asked, a look of confusion crossing his features. Sniper sniffled a little, and looked down at his shirt, pinching the soft fabric between his fingers.

“Yup, last I checked.” Sniper replied through a yawn. Obviously he wasn’t to awake yet, he had yawned ten times in the last two minutes.

“Then why am I alive?” Scout asked, his voice holding a bit of malice and misunderstanding.
“Truth be told mate,” Sniper started, throwing his legs over the side of the cot. “I really don’t know why.” That obviously didn’t satisfy Scout, because he crossed his arms, in a child like manner, and hissed in pain as he moved his arms in a way that he wasn’t meant to.

“What the hell do ya’ mean you don’t know?” Scout demanded, his eyes flashing with anger. “Don’t you know I could kill you if I wanted to?” Sniper regarded him mildly and stood, his body towering before him on the floor. On second thought, now that Scout thought about it, without his bat, or anyway of getting away from him, Sniper could probably knock the hell right out of him and then some.

“Loike I said.” Sniper replied casually, walking over to the shades and opening them a bit. “ I dunno kid.” Scout scowled and pushed himself back up and on to the cot, his arms and his thigh throbbing in unison at the strain. If it weren’t for this guy, he wouldn’t be in this state of pain, but then again, if it weren’t for Sniper, Scout wouldn’t be alive at all.

“You’re weird.” Scout snapped out softly, his face drawn down in annoyance. Sniper looked to him as he pulled out a cigarette and placed it in his mouth, lighting it up instantly.  A puff of smoke rose up in the wake of the flame of a lighter, and Sniper leaned back against a crate, his shirt hanging open, revealing his under shirt.

“I’d rathah be weird, than some bloody idiot, who thought he could sneak in ‘ere without bringin` back up.” Sniper shot back, pulling the cancer stick out from between his lips to release the smoke. He hardly ever smoked; it was only at times like this that he would ever do it.

“Hey! I had back up!” Scout yelled out firmly, obviously ticked. “But, my team, never fell through with it!” his voice dropped to a confused murmur, but picked back up its fervor. “ So don’t go lecturin’ me! I knew what I had to do, and I did it!”

“Sorry, mate.” Sniper apologized, crushing the cigarette out with the heel of his boot. The nicotine just wasn’t cutting it right now. “That’s all ye’ can do eh?” Sniper asked with a smile. Scout looked up at him and finally his cold exterior melted. He looked over to the wall with a thoughtful gaze and then gave a tiny smirk.

“Yeah that’s all I’ve been doin’ man, is bustin’ my ass tryin’ to win for the BLU team.” He looked back to Sniper, and it suddenly hit him that he and a RED were actually getting along.

“I finally get my chance to show em’ what I’m capable of ya know?” Scout continues, his blue eyes piercing with slight anger. “ Then next thing I know, I’m shot in both arms and a goddamn nail is peircin’ my thigh,” he looked himself over and touched a hand to his forehead, his hand hiding the shame evident on his face. “ I’ve failed man.” Scout mutters, his voice soft and defeated.

“If ye’ failed mate,” Sniper muttered, tilting his head a little so he could get a better look at him. “Then you’d be dead.” Scout looked up at him just then, his eyes shinning a little with tears. Why was this guy so nice to him? Not even his own Sniper would treat him with this much respect, especially not while talking to him.

“Are you always this kind to people Sniper?” Scout asked, the question nearly nagging at him to be answered.

“Yeah, I’m one of the nicest membah’s ya’d meet on the RED team.” He answers, his dark eyes looking to the window. “Sometoimes, it gets ye` in trouble more often then ya` want it to.” Scout nodded in understanding to that when it hit him that he didn’t have his headset

“Hey, where’s my headphones?” he asked, his hands roaming the cot to see if they had fallen in there somewhere. Sniper reached up on the top shelf of his cabinet and he pulled them down, tossing the contraption into Scout’s lap. He watched as a smile of pure glee painted itself on his face. To Sniper, he looked like a kid at Christmas.

“What do ye’ need em for?” He asked, watching as Scout went to work on fixing them up.

“To see if the rest of my team think I’m dead or not.” Scout replied looking over the slightly banged up piece of equipment. More than likely, that’s what they thought, and Scout wouldn’t be surprised if they didn’t really care. He grinned more when he heard the normal hiss of the headphones picking up the BLU team’s frequency. He was only a few steps away from finding out if they were all okay, and then he heard  BLU Engineer’s husky voice

“I think the boy’s dead guys, its damn near five days.” He says with what seemed to be a small amount of defeat in his Texan accented voice. Scout didn’t like the tone.

“Ve have not found any sign of him vhen ze spy checked out zhe base a day ago, I fear ze young one has met his death as vell.” Scout only recognized that voice as the Medic. What really stumped him was that they had actually sent someone in to find him. Scout scoffed, and Sniper watched him as he listened in. They must of said something that got to him.

“The maggot will be missed.” It was the unmistakable voice of Soldier that actually caused Scout to cringe away from the head set.

“I just got an ear full of our Soldier’s voice.” Scout mumbled, cleaning out an ear. Sniper chuckled and even gave him a cringed look. Soldier’s they were all the same once you thought about it. The next to come into the conversation was the BLU Sniper, who sounded to sincere to be thinking straight.

“Do ya really think the kiddo is gone guys?” that was when Spy and cut in.
“Snipor there was no sign of him at all, I do believe we can fear the up most worst for our youngest comrade no?” he heard Sniper give a small sigh.

“Damn, I was startin’ to like the little pecker too.” Now that sounded like the BLU sniper he knew. An asshole no matter what situation there was. Scout sat and listened, but what was soon to come, wasn’t going to turn in RED sniper’s favor at all.
